How It Works
Your Path to Support, Step by Step
Getting started with peer support is simple — no referrals, no paperwork walls, and no waiting rooms. Here's the path from first contact to ongoing support.
Five Simple Steps
Reach Out
Call us, send a message, or submit a request through our website. A real person — not a phone tree — responds and answers your questions.
Intake Conversation
We have a relaxed, judgment-free conversation about what's going on and what kind of support would help. No forms full of clinical questions — just getting to know you.
Meet Your Peer
You're matched with a certified peer specialist — someone with lived experience who understands the road because they've walked it.
Build Your Plan
Together, you set goals that matter to you — housing, work, recovery, independence — and break them into realistic, achievable steps.
Ongoing Support
Your peer stays beside you with regular check-ins, encouragement through setbacks, and celebration of every step forward. You set the pace.
What to Expect
The First Call
Your first call is a conversation, not an assessment. We'll ask what you're looking for, tell you how we work, and answer any questions — with zero pressure to commit.
Meeting Your Peer
You'll meet one-on-one, in person or by phone, wherever you're comfortable. Your peer listens first. You decide what to talk about and how often to meet.
Your Privacy
What you share stays between you and your peer. We collect only the basics — your name and how to reach you — never diagnoses, medical records, or benefits information.
Who We Serve
Our doors are open to adults across North Carolina — no diagnosis, referral, or insurance required to start. Whether you're reaching out for yourself, on behalf of a family member, or as a professional connecting the people you serve, we're glad you're here.
To keep things simple and protect your privacy, we collect only basic contact information — never diagnoses, Social Security numbers, Medicaid IDs, or sensitive medical details.
Individuals
Adults across North Carolina looking for a supportive partner in mental health, recovery, housing, work, or everyday life.
Families
Loved ones who want to understand how peer support can help someone they care about — and how to take the first step together.
Referral Partners
Case managers, clinics, and community organizations looking for a trusted peer support partner for the people they serve.
What Peer Support Is — and Isn't
Peer Support Is
- Support from someone with lived experience
- Practical help with real-life goals
- A judgment-free space to be heard
- A complement to your existing care
Peer Support Isn't
- Clinical therapy or counseling
- Medical treatment or diagnosis
- A replacement for your care team
- Case management with quotas
Peer support is not clinical therapy. Our peer specialists complement — but never replace — professional counseling, treatment, or medical care.
Ready When You Are
The first step is the hardest — and the easiest one to take. Reach out today and a real person who understands will answer.
